The City of Carpinteria is committed to continuing to provide essential local government services to the Carpinteria community during the extraordinary circumstances created by the COVID-19 pandemic. We appreciate your patience, cooperation, and understanding that the situation is fluid and will continue to demand changes in how we endeavor to deliver services to the Carpinteria community.

Public Service Counter Operations (Planning Permits, Building Permits Engineering Permits and Park Rentals)

The public service counter at City Hall will be closed from Wednesday, March 18th through April 3rd (if circumstances allow). Planning and Engineering staff will continue to operate via email and phone communications. Please note that routine activities such as applying for, or issuing permits, licenses, and similar functions may be affected. To make arrangements for these services, please call 805 684-5405.

Public Meetings

Non-essential public meetings will be postponed or cancelled. The Planning Commission meeting scheduled for April 6th has been cancelled, with the next regular meeting currently scheduled for May 4, 2020. The ARB meeting scheduled for March 26th has been cancelled, with the next regular meeting currently scheduled for April 16, 2020. The City Council meeting scheduled for Monday, March 23 at 5:30 p.m. will be held, and social distancing protocol will be followed in the Council Chamber.

Building and Planning Inspections

Building and Planning inspections will continue; however, they will be performed at the discretion of the Building Inspector/Plans Examiner and Planners consistent with the County Health Officer order to practice social distancing through maintaining a six-foot distance from others.

Code Compliance Activities

In-person code enforcement interactions with the public will be limited as much as possible.

Effective at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 17th, the City of Carpinteria Code Compliance Officers will suspend vehicle ticketing in areas posted for street sweeping and timed parking. At this time, the City expects to resume enforcement on April 6th, 2020.

Enforcement of disabled parking, red, yellow, and passenger loading zones will continue to be enforced.
