At a special meeting held this afternoon, the Carpinteria City Council established requirements for wearing face coverings as an additional health protection measure in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The new ordinance, which is effective immediately, requires all workers and members of the public to wear a face covering while present at an essential or lower-risk business. This includes standing in line to enter or transact business with one of these businesses. The requirement does not apply to office workers who are physically separated from others and do not interact with people outside of their household. The ordinance also recommends face coverings in other public settings where social distancing measures are difficult to maintain. Additional details are available at
